Mother's Day Weekend

For Mother's Day weekend I wanted to go on a little adventure. I wanted to just drive around finding beautiful places without a campground reservation for spending the night... And so we did.

Our RV Travel Atlas listed a drive around Maryland Chesapeake Bay as a scenic drive worth taking, so there we went. First we had to find a Walgreens around Annapolis to pick up a prescription refill (there are very few Walgreens around here). Across the drugstore there was a little seafood market and restaurant, so we stopped there for lunch. I had a Maryland crabcake, of course, and it was delicious. Daddy and Carlos had oysters, and Gabi had shrimp. Migue just had a bit of everyone's plate.

As we were driving down the road, we followed the signs to a Sandy Point State Park and stopped for the afternoon. It had a nice beach and the kids had a wonderful time making sand sculptures and playing with the water. After getting all cleaned up we started driving again. This time we went across a really big bridge to go to the Delmarva peninsula (Delaware-Maryland-Virginia), and drove through fields and farms until we got to St. Michaels, a charming little town. After some impressive maneuvering by daddy through the small town, we stopped in a little park to eat. We turned on the generator and microwaved left overs for everyone. We then headed to the nearest Walmart parking lot to spend the night.

As we were finding a spot to park, daddy decided to make another impressive turn, but this time, a few tree branches got on our way and scratched the side of the rig. Rick is still fuming a bit about that one. Anyway, we parked, did a bit of shopping, and settled for the night.

The next morning we headed for St. Peter and Paul's parish in our car, and left the rig at Walmart. Daddy was not feeling up to another encounter with tree branches this morning. The church turned out to have a huge parking lot where we could have parked, but now we know for the future. It was a beautiful new church (it just opened in November), and it was a beautiful Mother's Day Mass. The youth choir sang "Gentle Woman", one of my favorites, as it reminds me of all the wonderful moms at JMJ. (We used to sing this song sometimes doing Share the Word).

After Mass we went out looking for a place to have brunch and drove into Easton, Maryland . We found this Bistro and stopped for lunch. It was nice, but too expensive. They didn't have a kids menu, but said that the chef could prepare anything the kids wanted. So we ordered some scrambled eggs for Gabi and a plain pasta for Carlos. Well, I thought they would also adjust the prices, but they didn't. Carlos' pasta was $12!!! I could have made pasta for a month with that! Oh well, we had a nice time and it was Mother's Day.

We drove back to the Walmart and got the car hooked up and headed down the open road again. It was nice to be driving without a destination. All we knew is that we had to be back by nighttime so daddy could go to work Monday morning. We passed by lots of fields and farms, and saw lots of cows. We ended of going over the Sassafras River and found a spot to park just by it. We unhooked the car and went exploring through a canal road along the river. Other than a few people fishing it was quite deserted. We went back to the RV and the kids played outside for a while, while dad cleaned the windows and mom made coffee and then relaxed with a cup of coffee by the river. It was a lovely afternoon.

We had about two hours to drive back, so we headed back at around 7pm and went back to the Walmart closest to dad's work to spend the night.

It was a great Mother's Day!
